What is UMCOR?

UMCOR is an acronym for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.  UMCOR is the humanitarian arm of The United Methodist Church.  Its work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States.  UMCOR provides immediate humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disasters disrupt life to such an extent that communities cannot recover on their own.  (For example, victims of Hurricane Matthew last October were assisted by UMCOR.)  This Sunday, March 26th, you will find an envelope in your bulletin where you can place your gifts to UMCOR.  Please come prepared to give!

The special offering for UMCOR was formerly known as “One Great Hour of Sharing” and is always received on the 4th Sunday in Lent.  United Methodists are called to share the goodness of life with those who are hurting.  Your gifts will lay the foundation for UMCOR to share God’s love with communities everywhere.  This special offering underwrites UMCOR’s “costs of doing business”.  This helps UMCOR to keep the promise that 100 percent of any gift to a specific UMCOR project will go toward that project, not to administrative costs.
