The Work of Jesus in Global Communities

Heifer International

Heifer International is an organization that brings hope to people who are poor and hungry throughout the world. Contributions are used to purchase animals to be sent to families who desperately need nutrition and income. Veterinary services and training in the care of the animals is also provided.

Mission Trips

Epworth UMC supports member participation in mission trips. This allows us to reach out to people outside of our local community.  As a result of Early Response Training by United Methodist Christian Organized Relief (UMCOR) and Marion Edwards Recovery Center Initiatives (MERCI), many Epworth members are prepared to visit victims of natural disasters, whether this involves counseling, clearing and clean-up work, and/or repairing or rebuilding homes. Also, medical and non-medical mission teams go to Haiti bringing much needed supplies and medical care to the poor and the sick.

Rise Against Hunger

From time to time during the year, Epworth is a sponsoring church for a Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event. Volunteers are asked to be part of one of many teams that small small instant meals that are then packed for shipment to communities in need of emergency nutritious food.   Anyone can participate.  Our next event will occur on Saturday, September 30th at 10 AM in the Epworth Fellowship Hall.  Mark your calendars!

Crop Walk

This event which involves many organizations in Durham is a fund raiser for providing funds for both local and global hunger missions. Epworth has been a significant participant for many years. Walking, usually occurs in the early spring, please watch the church calendar for details.

“In all things, I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
