Thanks for all your help with Vacation Bible School Saturdays
A huge thank you…to everyone who has helped with VBSS this summer — including youth,
UMMen, UM Women, bus drivers, children’s council, and other wonderful volunteers! Over the
three Saturday sessions, we welcomed 50 children who interacted with some great stories of
Jesus!

Backpack ministry in need of donations
Thanks for your continued support of our backpack ministry, which is not included in our budget and requires $12,000 each school year to provide 60 backpacks each week. If you wish to make a contribution, checks should be made payable to Epworth UMC, noted for backpack ministry. If
you prefer to make an in-kind contribution, please donate 14-15 oz. cans of vegetables (corn,
peas, green beans, etc.) and leave them on the counter in the Farthex. Plan to help pack
backpacks following 9:00 and 11:00 worship on Sunday, September 1 to be ready for the first
delivery to Hope Valley Elementary school on September 6.

Come play in the orchestra
We are a group of adults and youth who enjoy playing our instruments on hymns and special
music several times a year in the 11 a.m. worship service. The music is not difficult. Everyone is
invited to play with us even if you haven’t played for some time. We rehearse on Mondays at 7:30 beginning August 5. The first Sunday we play in church will be August 25. Contact Judy Bolt at
919-384-2289 or via email at gajbolt64@gmail.com.

Thursday Class this Fall
In our continuing series of courses on the world’s great religions, the focus this fall will be on
Buddhism. We will learn about its founder Siddhartha Gautama and about concepts such as
dukkha, karma, and nirvana. The first of twelve class meetings will take place on September 5 at
11:00 am in room 2/3. Please sign up in the office or call Marie Hammond, 919-493-6199. Come
join us.
